It’s an LGBT PRIDE thing…50 Years in the Making

This summer, June marks  50 years of LGBT Pride. 50 years of progress. 50 years of community. 50 years of remembering the past, living in the present and looking forward towards the future of the LGBTQ+ community. June, for many, is a movement that celebrates sexual diversity and freedom for all.

In recent years during the month of June, masses of people from all over the globe celebrate the history of pride and the accomplishments we have made to date. Remembering Stonewall. Recognising heavy influencers who have played major roles in fighting for equality and leaving a better legacy. It’s not all about parties and rainbows (though those are great too) but rather a community coming together in unity, peacefully in order to raise political awareness. Pride month is important, needed, impactful and continuous to document how far we have come.

On the social side on things, LGBT Pride has expanded so much that you can travel and enjoy events from rallies to community meetings to parties and more all over the world. Chicago, D.C., Los Angeles, New York and Toronto host some of my favourite pride month events…so far. If you want to find pride events near you or in a specific location, a quick web search will do the trick.

Grab your friends, pack your schedule with month-long celebrations/events and go paint your town with colours. Don’t forget to hit your local parade, which has grown worldwide, usually takes place on the last Sunday of June.
